Most American nicotine pouches such as Zyn and On! are smaller than European brands. Some brands that operate in both Europe and the United States offer different products in each market, even though they are sold under the same brand name. For example Velo pouches in the U.S. are much thinner and lighter than Velo pouches in the EU.
American nicotine pouches often have a smaller nicotine content and are dryer than European pouches. The downside of the dry pouches is that they tend to get stuck on your lip and therefore damage it more easily. However, if the pouches are too moist – they will leak and you will have to spit or take the pouch out. Which obviously makes using those less discreet. Old tobacco based “Snus” pouches used to be like that. Even though they weren’t designed to require spitting, like American chewing tobacco, sometimes you still had to spit when using them.
That’s why, at CHIP, we set out to create a pouch that doesn’t stick to your lip and isn’t too moist, eliminating the need for spitting. And we wanted to have it available for both those who want to limit their nicotine content and for those who need a bit more. We also added some extra peppermint and eucalyptus oil, so that you would feel the tingling on your lip even with less nicotine. CHIP pouches are exactly the same in both markets.
The portion sizes are generally similar, the most common size of a can being 20 pouches. Although some American brands sell smaller containers with just 15 pouches per can. In both markets you can find differently sized pouches. The standard sizes usually include mini, slim, normal and large portions. Slim bags are the most popular in Europe, where as in the U.S. the most common sizes mini and slim. This might be a bit surprising, since chewing tobacco pouches used to massive compared to any of these. CHIP pouches are slim, no matter where buy them.
The most common strengths in the United States are between 3mg and 12mg. In Europe most of the pouches are 6 to 18mg in nicotine content.
